The wood came from the widow of a friend who had recently passed. It had sat outside to rot, not intentionally, but because my friend couldn't get to it due to his illness. When I received the burl, it was almost falling apart, but it had beautiful spalt lines. I was able to rescue it by adding a stabilizing resin and embedding it in the pores of the wood. I've made several pens from this wood.
The rollerball refill is about the closest you can come to a fountain pen feel without actually getting a fountain pen.
