Cigar Style Gentleman's Pen

Cigar Pens are also known as the gentleman's pen. Their name comes from the fact that they are shaped somewhat like a cigar. In general, these are a nice heavy-weight pen that write very nicely. Most people are surprised that you can actually write longer with a heavier pen, but the secret is that you don't have to press down on the paper: you let the weight of the pen do the work. These typically measure 5-1/2" x 5/8" and weigh approximately 2 oz (depends on the wood used).

These cigar pens all take Parker style refills, which can be purchased from any office supply store. I include both the roller ball insert, and your choice of either blue or black gel insert.

Finishes: I generally use an old-school shellac finish on my pens because I really like the way the wood responds to it, and it can really bring out the depth and details. Plus, I don't like the plastic look so many other artists use on their pens. Finally, the shellac finish is very environmentally friendly, and once cured is very safe. (Shellac is used in some foods and candies).
